Ethan gets a vision of some sort that Lena is in the caster world and he goes down into the tunnels to search for her. When he thinks he hears her voice down one of the tunnels he heads towards it. But when he opens the door, he finds himself in Macon's room with Liv on the bed. He walks into the room dumbfounded. He then sees that Marian, the librarian/ keeper. She then explains why Liv's there, that she's a keeper in training, following in her steps to learn more of the caster world. They try to explain to him that he might be a wayward, trying to help Lena take the right path. He then nonchalantly picks up Macon's journal, flips through the pages and get sucked into a vision. He sees Macon in the courtyard of Duke university talking to a pretty woman, telling her that he'll soon change in to the incubus that is passed down in the family, and that they can't be together for her safety. So he gives gives her a necklace, which is really the arc-light, and teaches her how to trap him if he ever tries to hurt her. The vision ends and gets pulled back into reality.

In this few chapters we learn what the Great Barrier is. Its a bridge between two worlds. The caster world and the mortal one. John Breed tries to take Lena there because he's trying to lead her into a trap, which she doesn't know. Lena's cousin, Ridley, is turned back into a mortal becasue Srafine learns she's helping Ethan and his friends. Ridley was a siren. She could get people do things they don't want to do willingly without knowing, so she can practically manipulate people to jump off a cliff , or tell her everthing.
Ridley is now lost because she has been mortal since she was five. Now she's just a pretty girl with blue eyes, pinked streaked hair, and gotic clothes.
